ARRIVE

A historic hotel on Mackinac Island’s Main Street

Guests first encounter Lake View Hotel from the carriage route: a white Victorian façade, a stone wall with the hotel’s mark, and a deep front porch lined with rockers. The building sits right on the island’s main street, with constant movement from ferries, carriages, bikes, and people.

Our interior work builds on that sense of history and activity. The goal was to make the inside feel just as rooted in place as the exterior—connecting the lobby, lounge bays, and porch to the streetscape, views of the water, and the slower, unplugged rhythm that brings guests back to Mackinac Island year after year.

ENTER

From street energy to coastal calm

Inside, the lobby becomes a calm counterpoint to the busy street. Deep blue sofas, patterned rugs, and teal drapery soften the tall windows, while warm metal lighting adds a welcoming glow. The existing architectural details—columns, ceiling panels, and trim—are highlighted rather than hidden, so the room still feels like a historic Mackinac Island hotel, not a generic renovation.

Seating groups break the room into approachable zones so families, couples, and groups all find a place to land. Some areas are oriented toward the windows and street views; others are tucked in for quieter conversations, reading, or games on a rainy afternoon. Durable carpets, furnishings, and finishes are selected for heavy seasonal traffic, but the overall impression is light, comfortable, and relaxed—an easy transition between the energy of Main Street and the rest of a guest’s stay.

Spaces for conversations, games, and quiet moments

Rather than a single open lounge, the lobby is composed of smaller living rooms: a bay for morning coffee, a grouping for board games, a tucked-away corner for reading. Color and pattern tie each vignette together so it still feels like one coherent room.

STAY

Guest rooms tuned to the lake

Guest rooms take their cue from the lake and sky—saturated blue walls, crisp white bedding, and pops of lime and turquoise. Spool-style beds, playful art, and stripe-accent pillows keep the mood relaxed and friendly, while commercial-grade finishes and casegoods are selected for durability and easy turnover.

RETREAT

An indoor courtyard for all seasons

A four-story atrium with skylight and balconies frames the pool as an indoor courtyard. White railings, soft blue siding, and greenery keep the space bright and inviting even when the island weather changes.

WATCH

Framed views of lake and street

Bay windows furnished with tailored lounge chairs and small tables turn circulation into destination. Guests pause here with a drink, watch the ferries, and take in the constant motion of horses, bikes, and pedestrians below.

The front porch as a social stage

The signature front porch remains one of Lake View’s most memorable features. Updated finishes and rows of classic wooden rockers invite guests to sit and watch the island go by—day or night.

Palette

Lake and sky blues, sea-glass greens, sandy neutrals, and warm wood tones reinforce a fresh, coastal hospitality story.

Heritage

Existing millwork, columns, and decorative ceilings are highlighted, not hidden—maintaining the Victorian character that guests expect on Mackinac Island.

Operations

Furniture, carpets, and finishes are selected for hospitality performance, seasonal turnover, and ease of maintenance for a busy island property.
